As London’s longest established IDD Therapy in London, Spinex Disc Clinic was set up to help people with disc problems using IDD Therapy.

Many of the patients coming to Spinex have been taking pain medication for some time and in many cases are considering invasive treatments such as injections or in extreme cases, surgery in their hope to be free of pain.

IDD Therapy provides a programme of treatment to decompress and mobilise targeted spinal segments in the lower back or neck.  It is a step change from traditional traction in the way it focusses treatment at the affected area and we use it to help improve function in the spine, which is key to spinal health.

  • Herniated or Bulging Discs
  • Sciatica or nerve pain
  • Degenerative Disc Disease
  • Facet Joint Syndrome

What is IDD Therapy Spinal Decompression?

Intervertebral Differential Dynamics (IDD) Therapy is the successful and trusted non-surgical spinal decompression treatment for back pain, neck pain and related conditions such as sciatica.

Many back pain conditions are located at a particular level in the spine. With IDD Therapy we use computer-controlled pulling forces delivered by the SPINA medical device to gently distract (draw apart) targeted segments of the spine in order to take pressure off specific discs and nerves whilst at the same time, gently stretching tight muscles and stiff ligaments.

Combined with manual therapy, we aim to relieve pain and create a platform for long term functional improvement.

Common Questions

I have had surgery, is IDD Therapy still suitable?
Provided there is no surgical hardware (metalwork etc) and surgery was over six months ago, IDD Therapy can be provided.

How many treatments do I need?
The rehabilitation programme is based around a 20 treatment protocol.  This is because it takes time to bring about change which so often has taken years to accumulate.  Most patients deemed appropriate for treatment will have an initial course of 10 sessions, followed by further a block of 10 sessions.  We track progress every step of the way.

Note – some spine conditions can respond very quickly to manual therapy and we use manual therapy as our primary treatment with many of our patients.  However for patients with unresponsive problems where IDD Therapy comes into consideration, it is for conditions which in our experience simply do no respond to a quick fix and which need something more than can be applied with the hands alone.

Is IDD Therapy painful?
No.  IDD Therapy is intended to be completely comfortable.  We do use considerable forces to decompress the spine but with IDD therapy, these are applied in a controlled manner.  We play gentle music during treatment and most people go to sleep.  We are very used to the sounds of snoring.

How long is each treatment?
A treatment lasts for approximately one hour.  We begin by warming the muscles and ligaments for ten minutes with an advanced FAR infrared heat pad.  Treatment on the SPINA machines lasts for 25 minutes and afterwards we give some cold therapy.  The cold therapy serves to calm the treated area after treatment.

Do I need an MRI?
We do use MRI scans.  This helps us to confirm the level of the spine to be treated, understand the nature of the problem and rule out anything which might make IDD Therapy inappropriate.  Patients who have an MRI will usually bring it with them.  If you don’t have one, we can still see you.  If IDD Therapy is deemed appropriate then we can arrange a scan for you.  If you are a self-pay patients, the price of the MRI is £200 at weekends or £250 weekdays.  We use two centres in London and prices have come down significantly.

Will IDD Therapy work for me?

We have excellent outcomes for patients of all ages and backgrounds who need more for their pain.  We select patients for suitability monitor and track progress every step of the way.  Some patients will not respond to treatment, however the more patients engage with the programme, the greater the success rates.

How much does treatment cost ?
Treatment last for one hour.  Patients have a programme of treatment because conditions which built up over time do not resolve over night.  The body needs time to adapt and heal.

Our prices are the the most competitive in London.

Price per treatment

1 treatment: 100

We also have affordable payment plans that can bring the cost per session down to as low as £74

No patient is under any obligation to continue treatment.   If you have paid for a programme we will of course refund the balance of any treatments not taken.  We monitor progress and give you feedback.
